    Good food starts with how it's grown.

    Our farm

    Our farm may look a little different from what you’re used to. No open field, no tractor (unfortunately) and no mud on your boots. Instead, you’ll find layers full of fresh plants, smart technology and farmers who carefully track what our crops need every day.

    But at its core, we do what farmers have always done: take good care of plants. We give them light, water, nutrients, air and attention. We just do it indoors, in an environment where we can fine-tune everything to the plant.

    That’s how we grow fresh lettuce and herbs close to the city, without depending on extreme weather, dry summers or long food supply chains. Our farm is not about technology, but about the plants growing inside it. We have spent years developing robots and machines to grow even more efficiently and sustainably. The technology mainly helps us make better food: fresh, flavourful and pesticide-free.

    Why we started

    Our food system is under pressure. Extreme weather, long supply chains, water scarcity and the use of pesticides are making it increasingly difficult to make healthy food available in a sustainable way. Growy was born from the belief that things can be done differently. By growing food closer to the consumer, in a controlled environment, we can grow fresh lettuce and herbs that are tasty, clean and sustainable, every day of the year. We may not solve the food challenge entirely, but we are doing our part.

    From Zeeuwse farmer to Vertical Farmer

    What is vertical farming?

    Vertical farming may sound complicated, but the idea is simple: we grow plants in layers stacked on top of each other, right in the middle of the city and completely independent of the weather outside.

    We look at what plants need to grow well outdoors, and bring that indoors.That means we have our own growing medium, our own sun and even our own controlled rain shower. Light, water, nutrients, temperature and humidity are all carefully adjusted to what the plant needs. Never too much, never too little. They grow every day under the same perfect conditions.

    As Ard would say: “In our farm, it’s always June 21st.”

    Nothing strange. Just well grown.

    Our farm looks spectacular. Layers full of pink light, robots and plants growing without soil. We understand that this may take some getting used to. It is not exactly what you picture when you think of a farm.

    But there is nothing strange about our crops. They are simply plants. They grow from seeds, receive water, nutrients and light, and are harvested when they are at their best. Just like outside, but in an environment where we can give them exactly what they need. We do not use pesticides and our plants grow without soil, in a clean substrate that gives the roots something to hold on to. This keeps the lettuce clean, fresh and ready to eat straight away.

    It looks like the future. But most of all, it tastes like really good, fresh lettuce.
